THE
BEATING HEART

Created by artist Ron Simmer, The Beating Heart is a striking and immersive sculpture that pulses with life. Constructed from half-inch thick reinforced fiberglass polyester resin, this powerful installation weighs 250 pounds and stands at an impressive 10 feet high and 7 feet in diameter.

At its core, a mini computer-controlled LED light array mimics the steady rhythm of a human heartbeat, creating a mesmerizing and visceral effect. Originally designed with a sensor to sync with a participant’s heartbeat, the sculpture defaults to a lifelike 60 beats per minute, reinforcing its organic presence.

A Fusion of Art, Technology, and Emotion

The Beating Heart is not a static sculpture—it lives and breathes with:

  • A Pulsing LED Heartbeat: Simulating the rhythmic throb of life.

  • Recycled Materials: Repurposed from the Embrace Project at Burning Man

  • Hundreds of Intricate Holes: Drilled into its tough plastic exterior to enhance its glowing, organic form.
