Castlegar Sculpture Walk

Pendulum Gallery

At the Pendulum Gallery's Sculptors’ Society group exhibition, Simmer presented "Virgin Mother and Child," an interactive robotic duo that engages visitors with flashing lights and synthesized speech, triggered by a proximity sensor.

The piece explores a whimsical theme of AI proliferation. Additionally, a steampunk guitar was showcased, blending industrial aesthetics with musical functionality.

The Beaumont Gallery Solo Show

Fire, Steel and Flowers" featured an eclectic array of Simmer's work, including steampunk guitars, an imaginative assemblage of toy guns centered around a giant pink vinyl pistol, intricate collages, hanging creatures, 3D wall art, and interactive robots.

The exhibition also highlighted the “Why Buy Art” electronic sign and a special release video, providing an engaging experience. Four of Simmer's gleaming dog sculptures adorned the gallery's outdoor space.

At Art Vancouver 2024, Simmer introduced "Trump Cat," a provocative full-size movie prop leopard with a Trump visage, alongside a steampunk guitar, several large shiny dog sculptures, and prototype interactive stainless-steel mother and child robots.

These works continue Simmer's tradition of blending political commentary with whimsical artistry. Previous Art Vancouver shows have featured sculptures such as “Modern Man Does Research.”

San Juan Island Park Installation

Night Blooms Public Art

for Township of Langley

July 2023

Featuring: Night Blooms

"Night Blooms" is a permanent installation in Routley Park, commissioned by the Township of Langley with a budget of $128,000. This sustainable public art piece features five flower stalks made from six-inch diameter steel pipes anchored on concrete piles. The flower heads, composed of aluminum cradles with attached multi-colored petals, hold circular solar units that produce programmed LED light effects at night. This installation not only beautifies the park but also emphasizes the importance of sustainability in public art.

Environmental Art at Emily Carr

March – July 2023

Featuring: Ocean Tragedy

"Ocean Tragedy," an environmental installation by Simmer, uses plastic fishing gear waste collected from British Columbian beaches by Ocean Legacy. This work, which was displayed at Deer Lake Gallery and subsequently at the Emily Carr campus, poignantly highlights the dire issue of oceanic plastic pollution.

Lumiere Vancouver 2023

Featuring: Berzerkatroid Dragon

The Berzerkatroid Dragon, revamped for Lumiere 2023, now features nine propane-powered flame effects projecting five feet from its jaws and wings. This captivating installation was previously a star attraction at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

As an interactive fire sculpture, it invites participants to play a toy piano keyboard that controls the propane jets, producing flames that correspond to musical notes and allowing the piano to perform simple tunes. This unique piece merges art, technology, and performance, making it a dynamic addition to any event.

A Plethora of Zombies

August 2023 (Returned by Film Company)

Featuring: Metal Zombies

All zombies available for sale or rent.

Commissioned in November 2020 by a film company, Ron Simmer and his team, on extremely short notice, created 11 life-sized metal zombies, which were used as film props. After the film project concluded, these striking sculptures were returned in August 2023.

Several of these hauntingly detailed zombies now grace the roof of the Vancouver Community Lab's backyard container and the roof of Storm Brewing on Commercial Drive. These art pieces combine industrial aesthetics with a macabre theme, making them compelling additions to any collection.
